Shehan Jayasuriya played a scorching scoop shot to Haris Rauf during an intense match between the San Francisco Unicorns and the Seattle Orcas at Major League Cricket (MLC). The Seattle side dropped to the bottom slot, while the Unicorns advanced to the third spot despite his inability to get his squad across the finish line.
Seattle Orcas opener Jayasuriya bravely batted 166 runs in the run chase against the San Francisco Unicorns. He scored 54 runs in an aggressive knock, hitting two sixes and seven fours. The scoop shot that was hit for a boundary was the inning’s main highlight.
In the final over of the powerplay against Rauf, Jayasuriya produced an unconventional shot after the right-arm pacer was struck for two consecutive fours and a six, making it a very significant over.
Shehan Jayasuriya’s fighting half century
In the thirteenth match of the current MLC 2024, Seattle Orcas took on San Francisco Unicorns at Church Street Park in Morrisville. Seattle Orcas choose to go bowling first after winning the toss.
San Francisco, asked to bat first, scored a superior 165 runs. Thanks to rapid fire 56 at a strike rate of 175 from Matthew Short and Finn Allen‘s ferocious knock of 34 runs, including two fours and three sixes.
Seattle Orcas, in reply, got off to a strong start thanks to the opening tandem of Ryan Rickelton and Jayasuriya, who put up 76 runs for the first wicket.
They lost the match because there was no assistance for Jayasuriya on the other end after Rickelton fell.
The following game for San Francisco is against MI New York, while the rematch will see San Francisco against Seattle.
