SKY is new captain for T20Is for Sri Lanka series
2024.07.18
Suryakumar Yadav has been selected captain of India’s men’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain for both the T20I and ODI teams.
Suryakumar Yadav, India’s No.2 batsman in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, has been selected captain for the upcoming Sri Lanka series.
The middle-order batsman, who has played 68 T20Is, led the team against Australia and South Africa last year in the absence of important players, but has now been given the team’s captaincy in the shorter format.
The T20I team looks familiar, with numerous T20 World Cup players returning after missing the Zimbabwe series, including Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Mohamemd Siraj, and Axar Patel.
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the visit, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play one-day internationals.
India’s impending white-ball trip to Sri Lanka marks Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as the team’s new coach. Gambhir takes up this role following Rahul Dravid’s resignation after guiding the side to victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
This will be India’s first bilateral series in Sri Lanka since 2021.
