India have clinched the prestigious trophy a record seven times.

The Women’s Asia Cup 2024, which will be the tournament’s ninth edition, is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 19, in Sri Lanka. The competition this year is a crucial warm-up for teams heading into the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup later in the year, and it will be contested under the T20 format for the sixth time in a row.

Eight teams compete in the competition, split into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group move on to the semi-finals, which take place on July 28 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium and will determine the winner. The field is competitive and diversified since it includes teams from India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia.

India dominated the Women’s Asia Cup from the start, which was held in Sri Lanka in 2004. The T20 format was used for the first time in the 2012 Women’s Asia Cup, a reflection of women’s cricket’s increasing popularity and strategic change. India has a strong history in the competition, having won all but one of the events. The sole exception occurred in 2018, when Bangladesh defeated India by three wickets in an exciting final to secure a historic triumph.

The qualification route for this year’s Asia Cup was the ACC Women’s Premier Cup 2024. This competition included sixteen teams; the semi-finalists, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, guaranteed their places in the Asia Cup. The greatest teams in the area will compete thanks to this rigorous qualification procedure, which will increase competition and highlight up-and-coming talent.
