Player of the Match went to Washington Sundar for his outstanding all-around effort.

The Indian cricket team, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, defeated Sri Lanka in the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, July 30, in an exciting conclusion to the T20I series. Despite a tough final game that went into a Super Over, India won the series 3-0 and completed a clean sweep. The Indian team turned things around from a dire situation, mostly because of the outstanding bowling displays of Rinku Singh and Suryakumar in the last overs of the game.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka decided to bowl first, which immediately placed India on the defensive. Only Shubman Gill was able to have a significant influence as the Lankan spinners greatly limited the Indian top order. The remainder of the top-order struggled, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (10), Sanju Samson (0), Rinku (1), Suryakumar (8), and Shivam Dube (13) all unable to make a significant impact. Gill scored 39 runs off 37 balls. India was unable to establish a strong base as they lost five wickets for a just 45 runs.

Washington Sundar (25 off 18 balls) and Riyan Parag (26 off 18 balls) made some significant contributions despite the top-order collapse. Together with Gill’s innings, their efforts allowed India to score 137 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. With three wickets, Maheesh Theekshana was Sri Lanka’s most impressive bowler.

Kusal Mendis led the way for Sri Lanka in reply, scoring 43 runs off of 41 balls. But crucial junctures in the game shifted the balance in favor of India. The match was considerably tightened by Washington Sundar’s key double-wicket over in the 17th over, during which he dismissed two Sri Lankan batsmen. Rinku, making his T20 bowling debut, bowled a brilliant 19th over when Sri Lanka required 9 runs from 12 balls. Sri Lanka needed six runs in the last over after he removed Ramesh Mendis and Kusal Perera (46 off 34 balls).

India’s captain Suryakumar took charge of the final over and turned in an outstanding effort, claiming two wickets while only allowing five runs to be scored. This outstanding bowling performance held Sri Lanka to 137 runs.for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, and the match proceeded to the Super Over.confirming their clean sweep of the series with a 3-0 victory.
