At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the United States broke the first track and field world record in the mixed 4x400m relay.

Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little, Bryce Deadmon, and Kaylyn Brown ran 3:07.41, more over a second faster than the previous record established when the United States won the global title in Budapest last year.

“We talked about it was going to take a record to get a medal, but it took a record to win our prelim,” Little said.

Norwood raced 44.47 seconds to give the US team an early lead, which Little expanded on the second leg by racing 49.32, the fastest lap of any woman in the preliminary round. Deadmon built up a considerable lead over the pursuing pack with a 44.17-second third leg, and Brown anchored them to a decisive victory in 49.45 seconds.

Brown finished more over three seconds ahead of France, who established a national record of 3:10.60. Belgium finished third in 3:10.74, also a national record.
