In the second Test match of the New Zealand team’s tour of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka defeated the Kiwis by an innings and 154 runs yesterday (May 29).

As the third day of play came to an end, New Zealand, struggling to salvage an innings victory, had managed to score 199 runs at the expense of five wickets.

Despite scoring an additional 161 runs in their second innings, New Zealand was still defeated by an innings margin. Mitchell Santner, Glenn Phillips, and Tom Blundell all scored half century for New Zealand yesterday, but none of them reached a lengthy innings.

In his first Test match, Nishan Peiris, a superb bowler for Sri Lanka, took 5 wickets and amassed 6 wickets.

Furthermore, Prabhat Jayasuriya secured three wickets.

Although Sri Lanka emerged victorious in the game, Kamindu Mendis was named man of the match.

The two primary spinners for Sri Lanka, Nishan Peiris and Prabhat Jayasuriya, took nine wickets apiece in this match.

It was a historic moment because Sri Lanka was able to win a full Test series against New Zealand after a 15-year absence. This was the largest Test win Sri Lanka had ever had over New Zealand.

Sri Lanka was able to take third place in the World Test Championship standings with this victory. Additionally, they have succeeded in making additional room so they may go to the championship finals.

The outcomes of the two Test series that Sri Lanka will play against South Africa and Australia in the future will determine whether or not they advance to the final.
