Maggie Mac Neil, a Canadian swimmer, declared her retirement on Thursday, September 26, via an Instagram post.

Mac Neil wrote, “I’ve always wondered what it would feel like, when I decide to hang up the cap and goggles.” Alright, so this is it. I’m officially taking a break from swimming competitively. The young girl in the picture could never have imagined that her passion for swimming would lead her to this point.

She then added, “I’ll keep it short, but I am really appreciative of all the experiences, people, and places I have had just by swimming.” “No one I came into contact with said to me that I couldn’t fulfill my dream of competing in the Olympics. I still find it hard to believe that I am a two-time Olympian.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Mac Neil, 24, took home three medals, including the gold in the women’s 100-meter butterfly. She won the gold medal in the same event in the 2019 World Championships.

Apart from her international victories, Mac Neil holds the record for the most Pan American titles, having captured five gold medals in the 2023 Games in Santiago, Chile.
