Mohammad Rizwan named Pakistan new captain
2024.10.29
Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team.
After Babar Azam resigned earlier this month, Mohammad Rizwan was named the new captain of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Babar, who first resigned following Pakistan’s performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, briefly took the captaincy again before formally stepping down on October 2. Meanwhile, Pakistan suffered a crushing defeat in a Twenty20 International series against New Zealand, captained by Shaheen Afridi.
Rizwan provides a wealth of leadership experience from domestic cricket and his position as captain in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he has demonstrated his tactical savvy and poise under duress, even if he has not yet led Pakistan in an international white-ball game. As the squad attempts to recover and concentrate on next international tournaments, his leadership will now be crucial to Pakistan’s objectives in both T20I and ODI formats.
