In September, Australia will play three T20s and five one-day internationals against Scotland and England, respectively.

Pat Cummins, Australia’s World Cup-winning captain, will be rested for the next limited-overs tour of Britain, while Mitchell Starc will miss the Twenty20 leg of the trip as part of a workload management program.

In September, Australia will play three T20s and five one-day internationals against Scotland and England, respectively.

Cricket Australia stated that Cummins’ absence was part of a “pre-planned, long-term load management strategy” in preparation for next year’s Champions Trophy.

Mitchell Marsh, Australia’s captain in the last T20 World Cup in the United States and Caribbean, will lead the trip.

Veteran opener David Warner has retired, while wicketkeeper Matthew Wade was not chosen, with selectors focusing on the future.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, a young hitter, was included to both the ODI and T20 teams after being classified as a traveling reserve for the World Cup.

“This tour gives us a great opportunity to bring in some new players in the absence of David Warner and Matthew Wade, as well as giving some senior players time to prepare for the home summer and a busy first half of next year,” the selection committee’s chairman, George Bailey, said.

Fraser-McGurk, Spencer Johnson, Xavier Bartlett, and Aaron Hardie “are exciting prospects to join the likes of Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, and Josh Inglis in the white ball setup,” Bailey stated. “With the Champions Trophy next year… there has been a lot of planning put into these next six months.

“That has included gradual integration of new players into our white ball squads who have earned international opportunities via excellent form.”

Australia won the 50-over World Cup and the World Test Championship, but failed to advance to the T20 World Cup quarterfinals.
