In contrast to animals, which have often been the first option in previous Olympics, the Phrygian caps were preferred.

The quadrennial mega-event’s ambassadors are the Olympic mascots. These, an essential component of the Games since 1968, capture the essence of the Summer Games. The initial mascot, Schuss, was an abstract representation of a guy on skis, painted in the French tricolor of blue, red, and white.

Choosing Phrygian caps as the mascot for Paris 2024, the organizers hope to honor the spirit of the French Revolution.

Phryges wants to demonstrate that sports are powerful forces that have the power to transform society and should be given a prominent position. Julie Matikhine, the brand director for Paris 2024, has stated, “We were almost ready to not make a mascot if we didn’t find a real reason to do so, and a real message to convey.”

In contrast to animals, which have often been the first option in previous Olympics, the Phrygian caps were preferred. There are two variations of the red Phrygian hats with a blade leg: the Olympic and the Paralympic ones. On November 14, 2022, the mascots—created by French novelist Gilles Deleris—were unveiled.

The Paralympics will take place from August 28 to September 8 and the Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11.
