All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh revealed on Thursday, September 26, 2024, that he is quitting T20 Internationals effective immediately and that, should his nation’s management decide not to offer him a last match against South Africa at home, the second Test match against India will be his last.

Shakib has played 69 Tests, scoring 4,453 runs and taking 242 wickets, ahead of the second Test between India and Bangladesh.

The Champions Trophy, which is probably going to be contested in the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan, will be his last international match for Bangladesh.

The legendary 37-year-old, who has played for Bangladesh in 129 Twenty20 Internationals, will still participate in franchise competitions.

“I participated in my final Twenty20 World Cup match. We’ve talked to the selectors about this. Considering the World Cup in 2026, now would be a good moment for me to move out. On the eve of this week’s second and final Test match against India, Shakib expressed optimism that BCB will choose some outstanding players and that we would play well.

After being accused of murder even though he wasn’t in the nation at the time, Shakib, who has played 70 Tests, amassing 4600 runs and taken 242 wickets, may play his final Test in the industrial town in North India if the cricket board is unable to guarantee his safety.
