2024.10.24
Chad Bowes of New Zealand has broken the record for the fastest double century in List A cricket with an incredible show of batting skill. In a One Day match for Canterbury versus Otago in the Ford Trophy 2024–25, Bowes reached this milestone in just 104 balls.
With an incredible 27 fours and 7 sixes in his blazing performance, Bowes demonstrated his aggressive batting style and bowler-dominating skills. In addition to leading his team to a commanding 343/9, his double century attracted the attention of cricket fans around. Prior to this, the quickest double century record in List Travis Head of South Australia broke a cricket record when he reached the milestone in 114 balls against Queensland in the 2021–22 Marsh Cup, and Narayan Jagadeesan of Tamil Nadu did the same in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy with a record-breaking 277 against Arunachal Pradesh.
Bowes’ knock was crucial to his team’s triumph, highlighting his potential as an international cricket star in the future. As selectors try to assemble a strong squad in front of next international matches, his performance is anticipated to get him acclaim and even a return to the national team.
“These things occur spontaneously and naturally. During the innings break, Bowes remarked, “I’m glad it was my day because you don’t plan for it or try to do it.”
In 2023, Bowes made his final appearance for the Black Caps. In six ODIs thus far, the 32-year-old has amassed 99 runs, with a top of 51. With the aid of a half-century against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, he has amassed 187 runs in 11 innings in Twenty20 Internationals.
