Matthew Wade retire from international cricket
2024.10.29
After a 13-year career, Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has announced his retirement from international cricket.
Wade will continue to play domestic and franchise cricket, but he will also move into coaching, becoming Australia’s fielding and wicket keeping coach. The forthcoming Twenty20 International series against Pakistan would be his maiden coaching duty.
Wade’s career was characterized by his ability to bounce back and adjust. He frequently had to fight for a berth in the Australian squad in all formats, but he ultimately solidified his position as a vital member of the T20I squad. His ability to play well under pressure was demonstrated by his pivotal roles in Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup victory, especially his game-winning performance against Pakistan in the semi-final.
Wade’s selection for the recent UK tour was made apparent by the selectors, despite his strong performances during the India tour and the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 36-year-old scored 1613, 1867, and 1202 runs in 36 Test matches, 97 ODIs, and 92 T20Is while playing for Australia.
