Who is The next captain India

2025.05.12
Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian speed leader, is said to have turned down the chance to captain the Test team.
In light of recent events involving leadership positions, the Indian Test cricket team is going through a major shift as it looks for a new captain.
The formal retirement of Rohit Sharma from the format and rumors that Virat Kohli plans to retire from Test cricket have further exacerbated the issue.
The situation is further complicated by reports that speed leader Jasprit Bumrah has turned down the chance to captain the Test team.
Bumrah reportedly told the selectors he would not be able to commit to playing every Test match due to workload management issues, particularly in tough five-match series. He was formerly thought to be a serious candidate for captaincy, but this choice was made.

Now that Bumrah is supposedly no longer in the running, attention is being paid to two younger players, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill. Both are now regarded as the front-runners to become leadership of the Test squad.
Since Gill has long been seen as an Indian leader of the future, many people are not overly surprised that his name is being floated for the captaincy. But in some places, Pant’s rise to prominence as a serious candidate has come as a bigger surprise.
Although his recent record, especially his shot selection during the series against Australia, has cast doubt on his consistency, Pant’s shown ability to win games in difficult foreign settings underscores his potential influence.
According to rumors, the announcement of the next Test captain is anticipated on May 23 or 24. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection are set to meet in Mumbai the following week.
The team for the forthcoming Test series against England will also be finalized at this meeting, which is chaired by top selector Ajit Agarkar. As India moves through this transitional period and is ready for upcoming difficulties in the game’s longest format, the choice of the next captain will be very important.
